I found your blog a few days ago and added it to my blogroll. I thought about you today when I was picked up by a female cabbie. I take at least 4 cabs a day and so rarely get a female driver. So tell me, do you let your passengers smoke?
Usually not, though I'm a smoker myself. I can be ticketed something like $250 plus points on my license if a cop or the TLC sees anyone smoking in the cab. I've had people promise to pay the ticket if I got one, but we all know that's bullshit. Besides, the few times I did let people smoke, they didn't show any appreciation in the tip. So fuck it. It's not worth it.
There is enough excitement going on with your job that they should make a movie about it!
How do you deal with the high level of stress that accompanies your job? The high-risk of being attacked, the stress of people yelling and cursing you for road conditions...treasting you like shit, etc etc.
Perhaps that is why you blog? =)
I enjoy your blog ... thanks for being so diligent in keeping it updated!
I make that offer to pay the ticket as well (but I actually mean it). I did not know about the point though. Honestly 90 percent of the time, the cabbie lets me and I always show my appreciation with their tip.

what is that stuff on the glass? looks like a dozen sea gulls in a row flew in formation overhead at JFK and dropped soggy white bomblets.
